As a GM I've always felt confident in my ability to improvise, but what I want to build for myself is a strong foundation over which to improvise while staying "in key", and that requires understanding Hommlet, and how to run a real classic session in it.įor character creation, I will present the following prompt. I'll adapt mechanics as necessary, so I have no concerns on that front.
I have the T1-4 combined module, plus the 5E Caves of Chaos playtest material to hand as reference modules. What I'm looking for is enough information to help me get a solid session one (and hopefully two) under my belt and hope that momentum keeps this effort going where in the past it has failed. Now, however long it has been later, I feel confident enough to start trying to resurrect the old group (such as it is) and give this thing a go.
So when the fifth edition playtests failed to satisfy, I started developing some ideas of my own. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.įor printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching.
Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.įor PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. These products were created by scanning an original printed edition.
